College Log - Basic Animation (Week 1)

It's been 5 weeks since I started college, but I figured I could start uploading what I've been working on since!

First week was all about learning how to animate, and for this I used RoughAnimator. It was recommended by lecturers because it's both very cheap & very bare-bones - perfect for learning the basics of animation. I've since upgraded to Clip Studio Paint to EX, so I've been animating more in there. My first week's animations were more about learning the ins-and-outs.

Most in my class decided to work on a ball instead, which probably would have been easier & less time consuming, but overall I'm glad I chose a mouth cycle instead. I've learned a lot since then, so if I were to replicate it I imagine I would have better results. Maybe later in the year.

In my own free time I worked on another animation, this time with blinking & ear twitching. I did it in Clip Studio Paint Pro for the better artistic resources, but I soon became aware that CSP Pro is limited to 24 frames total (not FPS), so I ran out of space to make the animation feel more natural. Again, I'm sure I could update & improve it now, but I have other things to do, so perhaps later in the year.

In addition to this, I worked casually on a more sketchy animation that week using some techniques I've seen in anime. Again, this has a bit more potential to it but I've left it on the cutting room floor regardless. Perhaps I'll use it again in the future, or use it as future reference, but for now I'll leave it.

My first week of animation was arguably my most productive, and my quality has only seemed to improve ever since. Over the next few days I'll update with even more work from my last few weeks!

If you're learning animation as well, I hope my insights have been valuable!
